I’ll be honest — I wasn’t expecting anything.
When I first signed up for Amazon’s Affiliate Program, it felt like just one more step in building my digital business. I had no idea if anyone would ever click my links, let alone buy something. But then one day, I opened my email and saw it:
“You’ve earned a commission: $2.55.”
It wasn’t a big number. In fact, it looked tiny at first glance. But for me, that $2.55 meant everything. It meant I had officially made money online. It meant the system worked. And more importantly, it meant I was no longer starting from zero.
If you’re curious about how I did it — from building my website, setting up Kit.co, to creating a simple video with CapCut — this post is for you.
I didn’t overthink it. I just needed a space online to start sharing resources I loved. So I used Google Sites — completely free, easy to use, and perfect for beginners. No coding needed, no hosting setup, just drag, drop, and publish.
I created a page dedicated to tools, products, and resources I personally use or recommend. I divided it into categories like:
Tech & gear
Business tools
Learning materials
Personal favorites
This gave me a central place to organize all my affiliate links and direct people when they asked, “What mic do you use?” or “Where did you buy that?”
📝 Tip: Even if you don’t have traffic yet, having a site ready makes you feel like a real business.
Kit.co is a free platform that lets you build curated “kits” with affiliate links. I used it to group products into themed collections — like “Content Creator Essentials” or “My Amazon Favorites.”
After signing up and connecting my Amazon Associates account, I added products to each kit. Kit.co automatically generates affiliate links, so I didn’t have to go back and forth with Amazon’s site.
I shared my Kit.co link on my Google Site, in social bios, and even on YouTube video descriptions later. And guess what? Someone somewhere clicked one of those links… and made a purchase.
💡 Lesson: People are always looking for trusted recommendations. Even if you have a small following, the right product at the right moment can lead to a sale.
I’m not a professional video editor. But CapCut made it simple.
I recorded a few clips of myself using the product (or showing it in action), added text overlays, transitions, and music. Nothing fancy — just a clean 30-second video explaining why I loved it.
Then I posted it on:
Instagram Reels
TikTok
YouTube Shorts
I didn’t promote the affiliate link directly in the video. I just added my Kit.co link in the caption or bio and said, “Link in profile for everything I use.”
🎥 Tip: People love “behind the scenes” or “what I use” content. You don’t need to sell — just show up and share honestly.
Pinterest is where content lives longer.
I created an Idea Pin that walked people through how I use my favorite tool or product — step-by-step, with images and short captions. I linked back to my blog post and Kit.co where possible.
Even weeks later, that pin still gets impressions and saves.
📌 Pro Tip: Pinterest is more of a search engine than a social media platform. Keywords matter. Think about what people would search for — like “best mic for content creators” or “how to start Amazon Affiliate.”
Yes, it was only $2.55.
But it meant:
Someone clicked
Someone trusted me
Someone bought
That’s all the proof I need to believe that this can grow. If I can make $2.55, I can make $25.50, then $255, and beyond.
But more than the number, it taught me:
Start before you’re ready
Use the tools you already have
Share genuinely, not salesy
Every little win is a step forward
I’m still at the beginning of my Amazon Affiliate journey, but I’ve already seen what’s possible. If you’re thinking about starting — just start. Create your free website. Set up Kit.co. Make a short video. Publish one Pin.
Don’t wait until it’s perfect. Because that first dollar (or two-fifty-five!) won’t come from perfection — it’ll come from starting.
